How does Workflow Operate in SAP IAG?
SAP IAG Workflow are powered through SAP Business Rules, Business Rules are built on a foundational logic of Role design service which is a cloud solution for creating, optimizing, and maintaining business roles for on-premises and cloud source systems in BTP.

From the workflow perspective of IAG the access request service integrates with SAP Cloud Platform Business Rules Service to define the stages, path and other workflow rules used by access request service to move request items through the stages of an access request.
How to Setup Workflow in SAP IAG?
The below steps explain the process of defining and configuring the workflow in SAP IAG.
Step 1– Identity the workflow template which needs to be used, also the same can be done by using Maintain workflow template.
Step 2– Here we can choose the available template or create our own template as well, please do note stages in workflow are constant and no new stages can be created.
Step 3– Embed the created workflow template in the business rules to activate the workflow trigger.
Unless the workflow is setup done correctly, the access request would end up in error and the request will not be allowed to submit (Refer note – 3268841 – IAG – Workflow configuration error when submitting an Access Request to know the importance of this configuration).
Conclusion – Workflow plays a huge role in access request approval process and any deviation/ mistake in this workflow would result in request no getting triggered.
